I regularly photograph Wellington buildings for clients, often shooting before, during and after earthquake strengthening work is carried out. I live in Wellington so am accustomed to the occasional shake. Even so, the quakes of the last few days have sharpened my awareness of the need for our historic buildings to be safe.
Last month consulting engineer Ian Smith, founder of ISPS Consulting Engineers, and his wife Mary, died in a motor accident near Taupo. Below are just some of the Wellington buildings Ian worked on earthquake strengthening:
